Jefferson County Man Sentenced to 30 Months for Illegal Gun Possession

A Jefferson County man will spend more than two years in federal prison after pleading guilty to illegally possessing a firearm.

Acting U.S. Attorney Catherine L. Crosby announced that Jerrell Demichael Dunson, 47, of Birmingham, has been sentenced to 30 months in prison. U.S. District Court Judge Anna M. Manasco handed down the sentence. Dunson pleaded guilty in October to being a felon in possession of a firearm.

According to court documents, the case began on October 10, 2022, when a Birmingham police officer responded to a trespassing call at a vacant apartment in the city. When the officer arrived, he encountered Dunson and asked for his identifying information to complete an incident report…
