BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A longtime shopping mall that was a mainstay of the Birmingham area for decades will be torn down in less than a week.
Brookwood Village, which sat along Shades Creek on Lakeshore Parkway in Homewood from 1974 until its last store moved out in 2024, will be demolished starting March 16. The news was confirmed by Fairway Investments Tuesday, which bought the property, along with Pope & Land Real Estate, in 2021.
On Feb. 25, the companies announced that the shopping center would be torn down due to aging infrastructure that was not up-to-date with the kinds of projects they wanted to foster in the area. The new Andrews Sports Medicine facility will cover roughly half of the Brookwood Village property…
