Juvenile suspect connected to Birmingham homicide moved to Jefferson County Jail

CORRECTION: The Birmingham Police Department has clarified that the juvenile suspect was originally arrested in May of 2025. He was transported to the Jefferson County Jail from the Youth Detention Center on Wednesday, March 11.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Birmingham Police Department has arrested a 17-year-old in connection to fatal shooting of a Huffman High School senior in 2025.

The homicide occurred February 1, 2025, in the 600 block of Eighth Terrace West. Officers were dispatched at about 12:20 a.m. to the scene. Ronald Bennett Jr., 18, was found at the scene suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
