Challenger Learning Center Launches Regional STEM Competition for America’s 250th Anniversary

Rainbow City, AL – In recognition of America’s upcoming 250th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence, the Challenger Learning Center of Northeast Alabama has announced a regional academic challenge for middle school students. The competition invites students to identify and defend what they believe is the greatest American STEM invention or innovation developed over the past 250 years.

The initiative allows the Challenger Learning Center to participate in the America250 Alabama celebration by encouraging young learners to explore the nation’s history through the lens of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The program is designed to inspire students to examine how American discoveries have influenced the world while promoting conversations among educators, families, and communities about the innovations that continue to shape modern life.

The competition is open to students in grades 5 and 6 who live within the Center’s 12-county service area, including Blount, Calhoun, Cherokee, Clay, Cleburne, DeKalb, Etowah, Jefferson, Marshall, Randolph, Talladega, and St. Clair counties. Participants will research American contributions in STEM fields from the past two and a half centuries, select what they believe to be the most significant invention or innovation, and defend their choice using three well-reasoned justifications…
