BJCC leaders in talks over solution for City Walk

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Leaders at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex (BJCC) are in active discussions about how to fund the ongoing maintenance of City Walk, the space underneath the Interstate-59/20 Central Business District bridges.

When City Walk opened, a contract with the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) covered the first $4 million in operating costs. Once that money ran out last year, it left BJCC and city leaders with an unresolved question about who would pay to maintain the space going forward.

BJCC CEO Tad Snider said Wednesday, March 18, that conversations are ongoing and moving in a constructive direction.

“Getting all those holders and key stakeholders together for a solution, and we feel like there’s positive momentum for what that solution is going to be,” Snider said…
