Alabama diner known for its Philly cheesesteak named best in the state

A popular Alabama diner recently garnered the title as the best in the state, and its well-known Philly cheesesteak has a little something to do with it.

Tasting Table recently released its list of the best diner in every U.S. State, and Salem’s Diner in Homewood garnered the title for Alabama thanks to its welcoming staff, diverse menu and, of course, its signature Philly cheesesteaks.

Salem’s Diner opened in 2006 and over the past twenty years has become a favorite among locals and visitors alike. Serving breakfast and lunch, the diner offers up everything from breakfast sandwiches and omelets to French toast and hot cakes in the morning before switching over to hot dogs, burgers, soups and more during the day.

The diner is best known for its Philly cheesesteak sandwich, which topped with grilled onions, peppers and cheese before being served on a hoagie. In 2007 then late-night host Craig Ferguson even called it the best Philly cheesesteak he’d ever had after visiting the diner in 2007…
