Data center ordinance heading to Birmingham City Council

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – The City of Birmingham is moving closer to a city-wide ordinance aimed at setting specific operating rules for data centers within city limits.

During a special called committee of the whole meeting, city councilors considered several changes to the proposed rules, focusing on different regulations for so-called ‘hyper scale’ data centers. Those are facilities that use more than 30 megawatts of power.
