Patients at Children’s of Alabama stepped out of their hospital rooms Wednesday to play a larger-than-life version of a classic board game.
Child Life and Education hosted a life-sized Candy Land game along the hospital’s Main Street to celebrate Child Life Month. The hospital said the interactive walk featured themed stations with craft activities designed to help patients learn new coping skills they could use when they returned to their rooms.
“This event allows patients and their families the ability to leave their rooms to engage in socialization and normative play, as well as provide them with a therapeutic outlet,” said Grace Willingham, a certified child life specialist at Children’s of Alabama. “I am grateful to work in a hospital that values our role alongside the medical team in order for all of us to work together toward the goal of helping patients heal.”…
