BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Central Alabama Water, the main organization that handles water for five counties across the area, is asking that a temporary restraining order demanding that fluoride be brought back to the water supply be dismissed.
On Monday, Circuit Judge Frederic Allen Bolling issued an order to keep CAW from removing fluoride from the water, at least for the time being. The order came after the group voted March 20 to stop fluoridating the water, citing high costs for equipment repairs as the deciding factor. Following the vote, the group’s sole water filtration plant that was still producing fluoride, Shades Mountain, stopped providing the chemical in the water.
CAW has also pointed to the city of Birmingham’s own alleged choice to not notify the public about three of the group’s four filtration plants not providing fluoride as early as 2023…
