‘We will walk you down:’ Birmingham police chief announces 48% drop in homicides, 100% clearance rate

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Birmingham Police Chief Michael Pickett delivered a direct warning to criminals Thursday as he announced a 48% reduction in homicides compared to the same period last year.

“We will walk you down, and we will lock you up,” Pickett said.

The department has also made arrests in all 11 homicide cases so far in 2026, achieving a 100% clearance rate, according to Pickett.
