Chelsea discusses logistics, funding for police department

CHELSEA – The city of Chelsea’s leaders recently held an extended conversation inside Chelsea City Hall about what measures would have to be taken in order for the city to create its own police department.

During a scheduled work session on Wednesday, April 1, the Chelsea City Council met in the conference room, where the hot-topic item of discussion was related to the city’s contract with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

The topic became a point of discussion after there were conversations with County Manager Chad Scroggins about the possibility of Chelsea forming its own agency and the county getting out of contracting services that help dedicate some deputies at Shelby County Sheriff’s Office solely to the city of Chelsea…
