‘Connect Birmingham’ initiative sees increase in registrations as city reports drop in homicides

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Birmingham police are asking residents to help fight crime through a camera-sharing initiative called “Connect Birmingham.”

Police Chief Michael Pickett said the program links residents’ security cameras to the department’s Real-Time Crime Center and has seen an increase in registrations and connections.

On Thursday, the Birmingham Police Department announced a 48% decrease in homicides so far in 2026 compared to this time last year. An arrest has been made in every one of those cases…
