Questions Remain After CAW Severance Payments, Board Stays Silent

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBMA) — Controversy continues to surround Central Alabama Water after a rapid shift in how the utility handled severance payments for laid-off workers — and lingering questions about transparency.

Advocates say concerns began Thursday night, when workers reported they had not received severance pay they were expecting. Central Alabama Water initially said it was working through tax-related questions with the Alabama Department of Revenue before issuing payments.
