BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Clarence Carter, who was born blind in Alabama but spent decades taking his music around the world, died Wednesday. He was 90.
Carter’s death was confirmed through the Associated Press by his ex-wife, Candi Staton, and her management.
Carter was born in Montgomery and later moved to Talladega to attend the Alabama School for the Blind, where the famous gospel group, the Blind Boys of Alabama, first met and got their start.
