Beckford was conscious when officers reached him and managed to give them limited information before he was rushed to a local hospital and into surgery. He later became unresponsive and was pronounced dead. Investigators say the gunman fired multiple rounds from inside a vehicle before speeding away from the scene.
Detectives used license plate readers to track down the suspect vehicle, which they found abandoned near Quantum Lakes Drive. A thorough search of the surrounding area turned up no suspects. But investigators kept digging, eventually identifying a second vehicle tied to the case. That led to multiple search warrants, which were carried out with help from the department’s SWAT team.
On Monday, August 17, U.S. Marshals arrested Sebastian Abdul Miller in connection with the killing. Miller faces charges of first-degree murder with a firearm and discharging a firearm from a vehicle. He is currently being held at the Juvenile Assessment Center. The investigation remains ongoing.
