Boca Raton Turns Parking Spots Into Pop-Up Park Friday

The free event is now in its second year in Boca Raton. Park(ing) Day started as a global movement, one that asks cities to rethink what a parking spot could be if it weren’t a parking spot. Communities around the world use the day to turn over strips of pavement to art, games, seating and greenery — anything but cars.

This year’s version puts the spotlight on Mizner Park’s retail corridor. Organizers will convert the three spaces outside Sloan’s into a community gathering spot, open to anyone who wanders by between 3 and 7 p.m. No tickets, no registration — just walk up.

City officials frame the event as part of a bigger push. Boca Raton’s Traffic Division runs the Boca Raton Mobility initiative, which aims to build a safer, more connected transportation network through planning and sustainability efforts.
