Former South Tech charter teacher faces charges of inappropriate relationship with student

A former English teacher at a Boynton Beach charter school is facing charges after sheriff’s investigators alleged that he had an inappropriate relationship with a student.

Deputies arrested Damian Conti, 25, of Greenacres on Tuesday, Feb. 6, on charges of unlawful sexual activity involving certain minors and committing an offense against students by an authority figure.

Conti was an English and Language Arts teacher at the South Tech Academy charter school in Boynton Beach . He has been terminated, according to Carla Lovett, executive director of South Tech. The school is cooperating with law enforcement, said Eileen Turenne, its principal

During a hearing Wednesday, Feb. 7, at the Palm Beach County Jail, Circuit Judge Donald Hafele assigned Conti a public defender and set his bail at $300,000. As a policy, the Palm Beach County Public Defender’s Office does not comment on open cases. He remained in custody Wednesday afternoon, jail records showed.
