FDOT’s Oakland Park Blvd & I-95 Construction: The Never-Ending Saga

A Project with No End in Sight

Several years ago, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) embarked on a major infrastructure project at Oakland Park Boulevard and I-95 intersection. The project, which was initially expected to be completed by early 2024, has frustrated local residents and businesses due to its seemingly endless timeline, lane closures, dust, and debris.

The Financial Burden

The financial implications of the project have been substantial. The construction at Oakland Park Boulevard from east of I-95 to NW 31st Avenue alone had an estimated cost of $3.2 million. Another project at the same location between Exit 31A and 31B cost around $79,5291. These figures do not include the costs associated with other related projects in the area, such as the 95 Express Phase 3C, which cost $457 million.

Disruption to the Local Area

The construction has caused significant disruption to the local area. Lane closures, detours, and traffic pattern changes have become common. These disruptions have not only inconvenienced motorists but have also impacted local businesses. The constant noise, dust, and general chaos associated with the construction have deterred customers, disrupted daily operations, and are a nightmare for those who live in the vicinity.
