DNA confirms identity of man whose remains washed ashore on beach near Jupiter

NORTH PALM BEACH — Authorities have identified the man whose skeletal remains were discovered in May along a beach near John D. MacArthur State Beach Park .

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said Carlos Lecky, 38, of Riviera Beach went missing in the ocean April 28 while trying to rescue his children.

According to a sheriff’s incident report, Lecky and his family were visiting the beach that evening when children began to struggle in the water and Lecky went to help them. A current took Lecky and he did not resurface.

Lifeguards pulled three children from the water, and each received a medical evaluation at a hospital. Divers using a Palm Beach County Fire Rescue personal rescue watercraft were able to locate Lecky and grab his wrist. However, rough surf caused the watercraft to overturn and divers to lose their grips on him, the incident report said.
