Instead of alerting local media to a carjacking on SW 18th Street in broad daylight Thursday, the police department posted a short note to Facebook. Why is that weird? Because under public records laws, the city doesn’t own – nor control – the content it posts to social media. It did not post information to the official City of Boca Raton website as of 6:55 p.m. It did not email blast local legitimate media of the crime.
