Man, 57, died Sunday in ocean near Palm Beach resorts, police say

A visitor to one of Palm Beach’s luxury resorts died in the ocean on Sunday — the same day a 15-year-old boy drowned while swimming at a park a few miles south of town.

The 57-year-old man was a guest at the Tideline Palm Beach Ocean Resort and in Palm Beach on vacation with his fiancee, police said. The man’s name was not released by police. The report said he was not a Palm Beach resident.

The man had decided to go swimming by himself while his fiancee stayed on a lounge chair about 150 feet away, police said. The woman was gone for a few minutes when she heard yelling and then saw two men dive into the water and bring her fiance back to shore, the report said.

An officer responded to the Four Seasons Hotel just north of the Tideline on South Ocean Boulevard about 10:10 a.m. Sunday after receiving a call about a drowning. When the officer arrived, another officer and Palm Beach Fire Rescue crews were already taking measures to try to revive the man. They were not successful, the report said.
