Many Floridians are aware of two truths – there is a shortage of affordable housing in Florida and some of Florida’s agricultural properties are being eyed for development. Specifically, according to the University of Florida, the Sunshine State continues to have an affordable housing gap. I’ve written about agricultural properties like JackRBT Farms, Alger Farms, and Q-Lab Corp potentially switching from agricultural use to development. And now, farmland in Palm Beach County may switch from agricultural use to affordable housing.

About West Boynton Ranches And Its Desire To Rezone Farmland For Multifamily Housing With Apartments: This company is located in the agricultural reserve of Palm Beach County. It operates 145 acres with commercial agriculture in West Boynton Beach.

In early 2025, West Boynton Ranches Holdings filed a large-scale comprehensive plan amendment for 32.4 acres at 9344 Boynton Beach Boulevard and 9281 105th Street South.

The Ranches wants to change the land use from agricultural to multifamily in anticipation of the building of 259 apartments – 25% of which would be workforce housing for people making between 60% and 140% of the area median income, which is $104,000 in Palm Beach County.
