New scam warning in Martin, Palm Beach Co. after victim ripped off

STUART, Fla. (CBS12) — The Martin County Sheriff’s Office is warning about the return of a common scam that is also affecting its neighbor to the south.

“We urge everyone to reach out to your family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues to warn about this scam,” the Sheriff’s Office wrote. “Any business associated with or serving our senior population is asked to please pass along these alerts to your customers or clients.”

Scammers are calling people in Martin and Palm Beach County, claiming the potential victim has outstanding warrants. In some cases, the scammers demand Bitcoin to clear the non-existent warrant, but they have also been known to push for gold bars…
