Waste Watch: Audit report shows City of Pahokee can’t properly account for $2M

PAHOKEE, Fla. (CBS12) — The city of Pahokee can’t account for nearly $2 million in taxpayer money after an audit from the Palm Beach County Inspector General.

The report found overpayments to contractors and suggests ‘fraud and abuse’ by a former city manager.

In the 87-page audit, the Inspector General’s office said they found ‘widespread, systemic noncompliance’ due to a lack of documentation for city expenses and unveiled a pattern of mismanagement and a lack of accountability…
