‘They thought they would bulldoze this through’: Boca Lago communities battle development plan

Communities west of Boca Raton are mapping out a strategy to fight a Lennar plan to build 762 condominiums and townhomes on part of the 27-hole golf course at Boca Lago Country Club.

More than 500 residents packed the Olympic Heights High School cafeteria on April 28 to discuss steps that might defeat the project. Lennar executives were expected to attend as well, but they were a no-show, prompting residents to call them “cowards.”

At an April 8 meeting, fire officials ordered Lennar’s presentation stopped because of overcrowding. Lennar had said it would attend the rescheduled meeting but then told organizers they were not coming because development plans were being redesigned…
