Person rescued from balcony after fire breaks out at third-floor apartment in Delray Beach

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — A resident who took refuge on a third-floor balcony to escape smoke from a kitchen fire in Delray Beach was rescued Wednesday afternoon.

Palm Beach County Fire Rescue (PBCFR) said at around 1:40 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to an apartment on Nepsa Way, off Sims Road. According to a 911 caller, the fire started after they turned on the stove, which then caught fire.

At the scene, PBCFR said units found a three-story apartment building with no visible signs of fire. However, smoke was seen coming from a third-floor apartment. Firefighters entered the building and rescued one person who sought refuge on the back balcony of the third-floor unit — closing the door behind them to keep the smoke at bay…
