Jurors find driver guilty of lesser charges in wrong-way crash near Boca that killed two

A Boynton Beach-area man avoided time in state prison when jurors on July 24 found him guilty of lesser charges in a January 2023 crash that killed two people in suburban Boca Raton.

Jurors convicted Alexander Spandau, 32, on two counts of culpable negligence in the deaths of Elizabeth and Daniel Polo in a wrong-way wreck along Glades Road.

Spandau faced up to 30 years in prison after state prosecutors sought to convict him on two counts of vehicular homicide, a second-degree felony that carries a sentence of up to 15 years for each count.
