Coconut Creek Police Warn of Social Security Scam That Targeted Senior

Police are warning Coconut Creek residents about a phone scam in which callers pose as Social Security Administration agents to trick victims into handing over cash.

The Coconut Creek Police Department issued a scam alert Tuesday after an 85-year-old woman in the city reported being targeted. According to police, the scammer told the woman she was under investigation for identity theft, even sending her a fake photo of a Social Security Administration badge.

The caller instructed her to withdraw a large sum of cash from her bank and hand it over for “safekeeping” during the so-called investigation. She refused, recognizing the call as fraudulent…
