PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — Florida is changing how students with disabilities graduate high school. Certificates of completion are being phased out, and some parents are worried about what this means for their kids.
The certificate of completion, given to students with disabilities who can’t meet all the requirements for a standard diploma, has been eliminated under House Bill 1105. Many students relied on this certificate to finish high school and enter the workforce.
Vladimir Baldelomar, parent of a child with a disability, said, “If I were to go through that and spend all these years seeing my son or daughter in school and giving it their best effort and loving what that whole experience was about their educational experience and then not seeing that be recognized, that would be pretty devastating for any family.”…
