Coconut Creek Police Warn Residents of Courier Scam Targeting Bank Customers

Police are urging residents to be cautious after a local woman was tricked into handing cash to a scammer posing as a bank representative.

According to the Coconut Creek Police Department, the victim received a phone call from someone claiming to be from her bank’s fraud department. The caller told her that her account had been “compromised” and instructed her to withdraw money for safekeeping. The victim was then directed to meet a so-called “bank representative” on Lyons Road, where a courier collected the money in person.

“Most scams we see involve criminals using cash apps or prepaid debit cards to steal money,” police said in a statement. “In this case, the fraudsters actually sent someone to meet the victim and pick up the cash directly.”…
