Family says six-year sentence isn’t enough in Delray Beach hit-and-run

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — Inside a packed Palm Beach County courtroom Friday, Sarah Della Valle held her 16-month-old daughter, Sofia — the granddaughter her father never got to meet.

She told the judge she found out she was pregnant the day her father, 71-year-old Romeo Della Valle, was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Delray Beach nearly two years ago.

“It was supposed to be a joyful moment to share with him,” she said. “But I never got to tell him he was going to have a granddaughter.”

Judge Howard Coates sentenced 21-year-old Trajan Maurice Johnson — a former college baseball player from Boynton Beach — to six years in prison, followed by five years of probation…
