Judge denies ‘stand your ground’ bid in 2018 Boynton murder case

A judge has denied a “stand your ground” motion filed by the attorney of a man accused in the fatal 2018 shooting of a man outside a residence in Boynton Beach.

Circuit Judge Scott Suskauer denied the request to grant immunity from prosecution to Samson Hyland, ruling on Nov. 19 that Hyland’s guilt or innocence on charges of first-degree murder and unlawful possession of a firearm should be decided by a jury. After issuing his ruling, Suskauer set the case for a calendar hearing on Jan. 8, with a trial date to be determined.

Hyland, 29, of Miami was one of two men accused in the Dec. 2, 2018, killing of Jarrod Bozeman, Jr. Hyland was scheduled to go to trial in January of 2024, but the trial was delayed when he replaced his attorney…
