PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — A late-night spill at a lift station sent thousands of gallons of liquid into a nearby canal after an employee oversight caused equipment to malfunction, according to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).
According to the report, the incident occurred at 6522 Haverhill Road near Riviera Beach on Saturday. DEP records show the spill began at 12:18 a.m. and continued for about 40 minutes before crews stopped the flow at 12:58 a.m. Officials estimate 3,500 to 4,500 gallons were released, impacting five storm structures and reaching the EPB-10 canal south of the lift station.
The cause was traced to an employee forgetting to restart air compressors after refilling liquid in a sight glass, which led to the overflow, the news release stated…
