Palm Beach County woman gets 20 years for masterminding nationwide phone hijack scam

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — A woman from Palm Beach County has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for orchestrating a nationwide fraud scheme that exploited victims by hijacking their phone numbers and resulting in significant financial losses.

State Attorney Alexia Cox announced on Thursday that Kadesa Sayles was found guilty of 18 felony charges, including stealing personal information and grand theft involving over $100,000.

The Palm Beach Police Department (PBPD) arrested Sayles after a 75-year-old victim reported suspicious activity on his AT&T account. The victim had received a call from someone pretending to be an AT&T representative who tricked him into sharing a verification code.
