South Florida’s literary scene has been in a fascinating state of flux this year. A string of bookstore openings — from Quade Books in Aventura to the Roots Bookstore and Market in Liberty City to a new Steamy Lit location in Miami Springs — have delighted local bookworms in recent months. But the region has also seen the closures of longstanding shops in that time, and another one just announced it will close early next year.
Barnes & Noble Pembroke Gardens, a fixture in its Broward community, announced late last week that it will close on Sunday, January 18, 2026, after nearly two decades in business in Pembroke Pines. The store, part of The Shops at Pembroke Gardens, located at 14572 SW Fifth St., Pembroke Pines, shared the news in an Instagram post.
“It is with great sadness that we confirm the closure of this Barnes & Noble bookstore, as our lease has ended,” the post reads. “Our last day will be January 18, 2026. We have loved being a part of this neighborhood, and it has been our honor and privilege to be your bookseller for the last 17 years.”…
