PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — As Florida lawmakers prepare for the upcoming legislative session, a wave of proposals focused on immigration and voter eligibility is already taking shape — including one bill that would add a new marking to some driver licenses.
House Bill 985 would require certain Florida driver licenses and state identification cards issued to non-U.S. citizens to be marked with the letters “NC,” short for non-citizen. The designation would appear on the front of the card, alongside existing information such as a person’s name, address and date of birth.
The bill is sponsored by Rep. Berny Jacques, a Republican from Seminole, and he is currently the sole sponsor.
Supporters say the change is aimed at protecting election integrity by clearly identifying who is eligible to vote…
