Palm Beach Police have issued more than 70 citations and confiscated about 50 illegal mooring balls since the town began enforcing its Lake Worth Lagoon Management Plan in late last summer, Chief of Police Nicholas Caristo said.
The Palm Beach Police Department’s Marine Unit officers also have identified about 20 abandoned boats since the enforcement program started in August, Caristo told the Town Council in an update during the Jan. 13 meeting.
About three months after implementing the plan, the council in November passed new rules that restrict vessels from anchoring overnight for more than 30 days within six consecutive months in waters where Palm Beach has jurisdiction.
