Lion Country Safari KOA campground closing after sale to billionaire Oracle co-founder

LOXAHATCHEE, Fla. (CBS12) — The longtime campground beside Lion Country Safari will close this spring following the property’s sale to the family of Larry Ellison, the Oracle cofounder and centibillionaire.

The West Palm Beach Lion Country Safari KOA Journey will shut down on April 30, and is no longer accepting new reservations. Guests with existing bookings will receive automatic refunds by February 17.

In a message to patrons, the KOA team thanked generations of visitors who made the campground part of their vacations, holiday gatherings, and family traditions. Staff described the decision with “gratitude and a heavy heart,” noting that the laughter and conversations of campers had filled the space “with warmth and purpose” for decades.

The campground has long been known as a one-of-a-kind overnight experience next to Lion Country Safari, where guests often woke to the sounds of wildlife from the preserve. Over the years, it became a popular stop for RV travelers and snowbirds seeking a warm-weather getaway…
