Fort Lauderdale Issues Health Advisory After Sewer Overflow Restricts Water Sports in Karen Canal Area

Fort Lauderdale officials are cautioning residents and visitors against indulging in any water sports or recreational activities along a portion of the Karen Canal due to a sewer overflow that has affected the water quality. The specific boundaries of the advisory area are NE 6th Court to the north, Hendricks Isle to the south, Sunrise Key Boulevard to the east, and N Victoria Terrace to the west. Activities such as swimming, fishing, jet skiing, and others within this zone are currently deemed unsafe.

The City’s response to this environmental hiccup includes conducting daily water sampling to monitor the water’s condition.
