Midnight blaze levels three historic West Palm Beach shotgun houses

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — Three turn-of-the-century shotgun houses burned down just after midnight early Sunday on the 600 block of Douglas Avenue.

According to CBS12 partners at the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, these turn-of-the-century wooden houses dotted old predominantly black neighborhoods in West Palm Beach from 1915 to 1925.

“They’re being destroyed at an alarming rate; not very many remain,” then-West Palm Beach historic preservation planner Sherry Piland told the Sun-Sentinel back in 2002…
