Bemoaning Boynton Beach Boulevard gridlock
It is extremely obvious that none of our county commissioners or whoever votes on building homes outside of Boynton Beach live anywhere near the area. When I moved to the beautiful bucolic part of Palm Beach County 34 years ago, it was paradise. As a native Floridian born in Fort Lauderdale, it was just enough further north to be perfect.
I recently traveled from Lyons Road to Jog Road on Boynton Beach Boulevard and was absolutely appalled. I looked up at one point and did not even realize where I was. That’s how quickly the Whole Foods shopping center went up. Everywhere I looked, they were building. How many grocery stores do we actually need? I can easily walk to three, and they’re talking about more housing in the AG Reserve and another giant grocery store. When is enough enough?
There are too many people here. The roads cannot handle it. It is most definitely no longer paradise. The trip between Lyons and Jog roads took me probably 25 minutes, with lane closures and construction everywhere. When I moved here, I could get anywhere, even the farthest reaches, in seven minutes. Now, I allow a half an hour. I am so so sad about what “they” are doing to my beloved Florida…
