Lake Worth man’s $52M Medicare scam ends with guilty plea, Rolls-Royce and estate seized

LAKE WORTH, Fla. (CBS12) — A man from Lake Worth has pleaded guilty to a major Medicare fraud scheme involving over $52 million in false claims related to unnecessary genetic testing and now has to forfeit his Rolls-Royce and his estate.

The United States Department of Justice said that Sean Alterman, 38, owned two laboratories, Live Beyond Medical MGMT, LLC, and Dynix Diagnostics LLC, and allegedly made around $5.5 million through fraudulent billing practices. He used shell companies to receive much of this ill-gotten gain.

According to court documents, Alterman purchased doctors’ orders for expensive genetic tests by working with patient recruiters who employed deceptive telemarketing tactics. These recruiters targeted Medicare beneficiaries, persuading them to accept tests that were not medically necessary…
