Lake Park homeowner says utility pole crash left him with $30K in damage and no answers

LAKE PARK, Fla. (CBS12) — A Lake Park homeowner is turning to the CBS12 News I-Team after a utility pole snapped and crashed onto his property, causing thousands of dollars in damage and sparking a months-long dispute over who’s responsible.

Jimmy Altman says the incident happened on a hot summer afternoon on July 30, 2025, as he was about to get into his pool with his children. Palm Beach County deputies rushed to his home after a semi-truck driving past his home got caught in low-hanging wires, snapping a wooden utility pole and bringing down live power lines. The crash sparked a small fire after dangerous electrical lines fell in Altman’s yard, and on his boat and truck in the driveway.

“It sounded like a train wreck,” Altman said. “It was just an explosion basically in my backyard. I wasn’t sure what it was at first but saw bright lights and smoke shooting from the backyard, and my power all went out in the house.”…
