The search is on for a suspect accused of a brutal assault and robbery of a bicyclist in Oakland Park, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO). The attack took place before 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, leaving the victim hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The BSO reports that the assailant, an adult male, confronted the victim on the 3000 block of Northwest 21st Avenue, attempting to steal a wallet that the victim claimed not to have. “The victim said he didn’t have the wallet and the suspect started punching him in the face, leaving him bloodied,” authorities described in an incident released by NBC Miami.
Following the altercation, the suspect took the man’s iPhone and fled south on Northwest 21st Avenue. In pursuit of justice, the BSO is now disseminating a surveillance image of the perpetrator who was decked in a tan, woven sun hat, a black long sleeve shirt, and blue jeans, and was distinguished by a full gray and black beard. A reward of up to $5,000 has been offered for information leading to an arrest, according to a statement obtained by 953WDAE.
Detective Mark Copley of the BSO Robbery Unit is leading the investigation and urges anyone with knowledge about the identity of the suspect to come forward. 953WDAE also reports, “Detectives say the subject was wearing a tan, woven sun hat with a black long sleeve shirt and blue jeans.
