Fatal Police-Involved Shooting in Fort Lauderdale Leaves Suspect Dead as Officers Are Placed on Leave Pending Investigation

A police-involved shooting in Fort Lauderdale left one man dead yesterday afternoon. The altercation resulted from officers responding to reports of a disturbance near Northwest 9th Avenue and Chateau Park Drive. Fort Lauderdale Police Chief Bill Schultz detailed in a statement to WSVN that officers were approached by an armed adult male, not initially connected to the disturbance, who subsequently fired his weapon during the encounter, leading to three officers discharging their firearms and fatally wounding the suspect.

Upon the shooting the officers attempted life-saving efforts until Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue arrived and rushed the suspect to Broward Health Medical Center where he later died, meanwhile, no officers were injured during the encounter. Nearby Ring doorbell camera footage captured some of the chaotic scene, showing an SUV and a man in a white tank top who seemed to be engaging with someone in the vehicle, although law enforcement has not confirmed if these individuals were related to the incident. On the subject of the witnesses, a woman spoke to NBC6, recounting hearing what she described as a “shootout.”

Following protocol, the three involved officers have been placed on administrative leave pending further investigation, a detail shared by Police Chief Schultz. The identity of the man who was shot has not been released as of yet and no other injuries were reported…
