PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — A Palm Beach County mother was arrested Thursday after deputies say she left six children—ranging from 1 to 9 years old—unsupervised for more than two hours before a fire broke out inside their apartment.
According to the heavily redacted probable cause affidavit from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and Palm Beach County Fire Rescue responded around 9:54 a.m. Thursday, to an apartment where heavy smoke was pouring from the unnamed unit. Firefighters found six young children outside with a neighbor who had attempted to evacuate them after calling 911.
Deputies noted the children were coughing during the 911 call, but firefighters later confirmed none of the children suffered injuries. Investigators determined the fire was accidental and likely started when the kitchen stove was switched on unintentionally…
