Former company controller accused of stealing nearly $1 million in fraud scheme

JUPITER, Fla. (CBS12) — A former company controller is accused of stealing nearly $1 million from a Palm Beach County business over several years by secretly paying himself fraudulent reimbursements, according to investigators.

James Evans, 56, was arrested by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office and charged with organized scheme to defraud and grand theft.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Evans worked as the controller for Rise Composite Technologies in Jupiter from 2017 until November 2022, where he was responsible for payroll, accounting, and the company’s financial systems…
