Ada County detectives warn of rising court, jury duty scam calls demanding ‘bail’ payments

ADA COUNTY, Idaho (CBS2) — Ada County Sheriff’s Office states detectives are seeing an increase in scams involving supposed missed court or jury appearances.

Residents are receiving fake texts, emails and phone calls claiming they must pay a “bail” to avoid arrest. Scammers often use spoof phone numbers to make it appear the call is coming from a legitimate law enforcement agency.

When scammers make contact, they often create a sense of urgency, fear and isolation to get people to comply. They will try to keep you on the phone or remain in close contact with you while you retrieve the money or information they requested…
