Idaho Free Fishing Day: Kids can catch free gear at Kleiner Pond

  • Idahoans can enjoy Free Fishing Day at Kleiner Pond in Meridian this weekend, with children under 14 receiving free fishing gear courtesy of ICCU and Scheels of Idaho.

Idahoans are gearing up for Free Fishing Day and family time this weekend. Those headed to Kleiner Pond in Meridian with youngsters can even pack light with an opportunity to catch free fishing gear.

Children under 14 years old will be able catch a free fishing pole and tackle box, courtesy of a partnership between ICCU and Scheels of Idaho, in support of Idaho Fish and Game’s free event. The fun runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, at Julius M. Kleiner Memorial Park.

Free Fishing Day is an Idaho tradition that includes Idaho Fish and Game (IDFG) employees and volunteers bringing fishing gear to various spots in the Gem State, loaning rods, reels and tackle while helping people learn to fish. Anyone can fish for free, but rules still apply…
