MERIDIAN, Idaho (CBS2) — As hotter weather dries out vegetation across Meridian, firefighters are urging residents to take extra steps to prevent brush fires before a small spark turns into a fast-moving blaze.
Over the past week, Meridian Fire Department crews responded to several brush fires throughout the city. No civilians, pets or first responders were injured, and crews were able to quickly contain the fires before they spread further.
Fire officials said many brush fires start from everyday activities that may seem harmless. Common causes include malfunctioning equipment, sparks from vehicles or trailers, improperly discarded smoking materials, outdoor welding or grinding, fireworks, recreational fires that are not properly extinguished, and equipment operating in dry grass or vegetation.
